Founded in 2013 by Blackstone and a former management team from Iberdrola Renovables, headquartered in Madrid, Spain. The company focuses its investments on the energy transition and sustainability sectors, covering the entire energy value chain with the aim of developing or acquiring assets and companies where it can add value.
Fisterra Energy has a multidisciplinary team with extensive global experience in the energy sector, whose members have successfully led the growth and internationalization of the companies they have worked for. They bring a diverse range of skills, combining development, management, technical, M&A, and project financing expertise with an industrial approach. Their experience includes managing the development, construction and operation of projects, as well as establishing, developing, and managing electricity and gas supply companies that trade energy on both physical and financial wholesale and retail markets worldwide.

With more than 30 years of experience in the energy field, Mr. Barriuso is the Chief Executive Officer of Fisterra Energy. He recently served as President and CEO of Element Power, and was previously President and one of the co-founders of Helium Energy, Element’s origin company.
Before Helium, Mr. Barriuso was the General Manager of the Renewable Energies and Engineering & Construction units of the Iberdrola Group, the world leader in renewable energies. During Mr. Barriuso’s tenure, Iberdrola Renewable Energies was transformed from a relatively minor player in the wind industry (400 MW) to one of the best known and most successful organizations with a backlog of more than 4,000 MW in operation and real development opportunities in several countries exceeding 15,000 MW. Previously, he worked for Acciona, as General Manager of the Diversification Area, in charge of divisions including Energy, Airport Services and Environmental Services. Prior to that, he worked for Tubos Reunidos as Managing Director (wireless tube steel manufacturer).
After finishing his Master’s in Economics and Business Management at the IESE Business School of the University of Navarra, Spain, he joined the consultancy firm McKinsey & Co., working at the Lisbon and Milan offices in the textile, food and transport sectors. In 1989 he joined the Celsa Group, the largest private producer of steel in Spain, first as General Manager of Nervacero, and in 1992, as CEO of another of the companies in the group, Nueva Montaña Quijano, combining both positions.
Mr. Barriuso holds a degree in Geological Science from the University of the Basque Country.
With over 20 years of experience in the energy field, Mr. Guzmán was the former Managing Director for EMEA and Latin America at Element Power, and one of the co-founders of Helium Energy, where he held the position of Managing Director. Prior to Helium, Mr. Guzmán was the head of international activities of Iberdrola Renewables where he led the company’s international expansion by entering into new markets throughout Europe, the US, Latin America and China, developing or acquiring thousands of MW of renewable projects. He had previously served as Business Development Director for Iberdrola Latin America based in Mexico City, where he managed the development and construction of more than 5,000 MW of combined cycle power plants in Mexico, including the PPA with state-owned entities and private customers, and gas supply agreements. Prior to that, as Finance Director and Head of Structured Financing and M&A for the ACS Group, he managed several processes of acquisition and financing of international projects, as well as the creation of the Group’s Renewable Energies division and investment activity in diversification, mainly infrastructure concessions, transport, energy projects and waste management.
Mr. Guzmán holds a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Autonomous University of Madrid
Mr. Furones, with over 22 years of experience in the energy sector, has been responsible at Fisterra Energy for the development and construction of 2,000 GW of CCGT and 650 MW of PV in Mexico, as well as 700 MW of hydrogen projects in Spain. Previously he was the Chief Development Officer and Director of Procurement & Construction at Element Power Solar, in charge of the development, engineering, construction and operation of solar projects. In this position, he created an international portfolio of more than 800 MW in Chile, Italy, France, Mexico and Spain. Mr. Furones was also one of the co-founders of Helium Energy. Prior to Helium, he was responsible for engineering and construction of solar projects at Iberdrola Engineering and Construction where he was accountable for the construction of more than 200 MW of solar PV.
Mr. Furones holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
Mr. Corcelles has over 26 years of experience in the energy sector. As Development Director at Fisterra, he has led the development and construction of wind farms in Mexico and the development of wind projects in Spain. He previously served as Development Director for EMEA-LATAM at Element Power, overseeing wind project development in Latin America.
Before joining Element Power, he was a co-founder of Helium Energy, where he served as Development Director. While at Helium, he also acted as CEO of Wind to Power System (W2PS), a grid integration technology company later acquired by Hudson Clean Energy Partners.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Corcelles worked at Iberdrola Renewables, where he was responsible for the development and construction of wind projects in Spain. In this role, he successfully led the greenfield development of several thousand megawatts and oversaw the construction of more than 900 MW of wind projects.
Mr. Corcelles holds an MSc in Agricultural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and has been a professor of wind energy at the European University of Madrid.
A founding member of Fisterra Energy, where he has been involved in the development and construction of both green and conventional energy projects, including gas and electricity infrastructure.
Mr. Oraa previously held the position of Wind Operations & Technical Director for EMEA-LATAM at Element Power, where he managed wind development, construction and operation activities. He also served as Development and Technical Director at Helium, as one of the founders of the company. Before his tenure at Helium, Mr. Oraa was the Development Manager at Iberdrola Renewables, overseeing project development in countries including Spain, Poland, Germany, France and the United States. In this role, he gained valuable experience in wind resource assessment, turbine procurement, and construction. He also served as General Manager at the joint venture between Endesa and Elecnor for wind developments in Argentina following his departure from Elecdey, where he worked as an engineer on wind and small hydro projects.
Mr. Oraa has over 25 years of experience in the energy sector, including international greenfield development, construction and operation of wind and gas energy projects. He has participated in more than 1,000 MW of operational wind projects.
Mr. Oraa holds a degree in Industrial Engineering, specializing in electricity, from the Bilbao School of Engineering in Spain.
Mr. Aguilar has over 28 years of experience in the energy sector. At Element Power he developed his role as Development Director in different markets such as Italy, Eastern Europe and Mexico, being responsible for business development, commercial agreements with partners and PPAs. Previously, he was Development Manager at Helium Energy, and before that, Director at Iberdrola Engineering and Construction, where he led the T&D international business. Mr. Aguilar has managed the execution of long-term PPAs for more than 2.5 GW, participated in the creation of energy trading companies, been involved in the development and construction of generation projects (combined cycle plants, photovoltaic and wind) and electrical infrastructure (gas pipes, high-voltage lines and substations), and established new branches in Mexico, Venezuela, Bulgaria, Albania and Qatar.
Mr. Aguilar holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Comillas Pontifical University (ICAI) in Madrid, and a Master’s in Economics and Business Management from the IESE Business School at the University of Navarra.
Mr. Giménez has over 30 years of experience in the energy sector in three different countries: the UK, Spain and Mexico. Prior to his current position as Development Director and head of Energy Markets and Regulatory Analysis at Fisterra Energy, he was the General Manager of the Mexico office of Fisterra Energy. Prior to Fisterra Energy Group, he was the Managing Director of Centrica Energía in Spain, the leading non-incumbent electricity Supplier at the time in the Spanish electricity market, managing more than 2% of the Industrial and Commercial Spanish electricity retail market and representing 2,000 MW of renewable electricity on the Spanish wholesale market. Prior to that, Mr. Giménez worked for Enron Europe in different roles: Managing Director in the UK of the gas and electricity supply business based in Oxford, managing 300,000 SME and Industrial and Commercial accounts; responsible for launching the first non-incumbent electricity supply business in Spain, and for developing the first non-incumbent CCGT in Spain in Arcos de la Frontera, with 1,200 MW. He also worked at JP Morgan (London) in the Equity Research Department as Pan-European utilities analyst. He started his career as an energy consultant for Arthur Andersen in Spain.
Mr. Giménez holds an MBA from Manchester Business School (UK), a BA in Business Administration from Deusto Business School (Spain), an Executive Senior Program (PADE) from IESE business school (University of Navarra, Spain). Mr. Giménez is a CEM (Certified Energy Manager) recognized by the AEE (Association of Energy Engineers) and an EVO CMVP (Certified Measurement & Verification Professional).
Mr. Arenillas de Chaves has extensive experience in the energy sector, currently serving as Head of M&A and Financing at Fisterra Energy, which he joined in 2015. Prior to his role in private equity, he was Vice President at Banco Santander in the Project & Acquisition Finance team. His banking career began in the same field at Banesto, continuing at Banco Santander following the merger of the two banks. He was actively involved in significant project finance transactions across diverse sectors, including gas infrastructure, renewable energy (wind, CSP, and PV), water supply infrastructure, and the restructuring of major renewable asset portfolios following regulatory changes in Spain.
Prior to his banking career, Mr. Arenillas de Chaves was a co-founder of a startup specializing in Facility Management for SMEs.
Mr. Arenillas de Chaves holds an MSc in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, an MBA from EOI Business School, and completed a postgraduate entrepreneurship program at Babson College.
Mr. Roca joined Fisterra in 2014,having previously worked as legal counsel at multinational companies in the energy, real estate and retail sectors.
Mr. Roca focuses his practice on corporate law, and has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions and compliance matters.

Ms. Romeral has over 25 years of experience, and heads the Finance, Tax and HR Department of Fisterra Energy group.
Prior to Fisterra Energy, she was the Finance Director for EMEA at Element Power during the period 2009-2012. As part of her work at Element Power, Ms. Romeral was responsible for the supervision of all Finance, HR and tax areas for the Element Power companies in Southern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America (mainly Italy, France, Poland, Chile, Mexico).
Before joining Element Power, Ms. Romeral worked for Deloitte (formerly Andersen) as Senior Manager of the Energy & Resources Audit Division. She specialized in audit services and counseling at major multinationals with a high volume of business in different activity sectors, including manufacturing, energy and advertising. She was involved in major projects involving financial counseling engagements and evaluation, purchase and sale of companies. Ms. Romeral acquired experience of several international reporting systems and the principles and rules of the IFRS and consolidation matters.
Ms. Romeral holds a Master’s in Economics and Business Administration from the Complutense University of Madrid and a MBA in Audit and Financial Statements Analysis also from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is member of the Spanish Official Auditors’ Register (ROAC).
Mr. Ruiz-Valdepeñas has more than 21 years of experience in the energy sector, in areas including conventional (combined cycle power plants and coal power plants), renewable and transition energy. Before joining Fisterra he worked for 10 years at Técnicas Reunidas, in roles including Project Director, Business Development Manager and Engineering Manager. He was also head of several joint ventures and led the negotiation of agreements and orders with OEMs. While acting as Business Development Manager he was responsible for the award of several combined cycle power plant EPC contracts, adding more than 3,700 MW in countries such as the UK, Mexico, Hungary and Ghana, and leading other opportunities in the Middle East, Brazil, Chile and Tanzania. Prior to TR he worked for Idom as Procurement Manager. He started his career at Soluziona (Unión Fenosa) and became Commissioning Manager. He has built up broad experience of close to 4,800 MW in the execution of energy projects in countries including Spain, Mexico, the UK, Poland and Ghana.
Mr. Ruiz-Valdepeñas holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and an MBA from IE University.
