After the acquisition, Frontera CCGT was interconnected to the Mexican grid through a dedicated high-voltage transmission line. It began importing energy to Mexico in May 2015, becoming the first private generator on the Mexican Wholesale Market in 2016. The plant won the long-term auction capacity for 475 MW in 2016 with an offtake with the incumbent company CFE Basic Supply.
